What is WestboroFUSE?
What else will be installed on the street to make the event run smoothly?
Throughout the street closure you will find numerous trash and recycle stations and we ask that all our partners and visitors help us to do ourpart for the environment by using the appropriate waste /recycle containers. You will also find portable washrooms and hand sanitizing stations at our partner MEC and at key family and stage programming areas. There is also bike parking at MEC and a baby change/feeding area at Baby Enroute.
What can you to do help make this a great success?
Our biggest request now is to help spread the word!! We have followed all of you on social and would love for you to make sure you do the same. We will be having lots of great contests with the fantastic prizes all of you have donated over the next two weeks. Our social media handles are
When is Westboro FUSE taking place?
It’s taking place the second weekend of June – June 10, 11 and 12, 2016.
Where is Westboro FUSE taking place?
WestboroFuse will be located along 10 blocks of Richmond Road between Golden Avenue and McRae Avenue in Ottawa’s west end – Westboro Village. With sidewalks, shade, benches, and along a flat route, FUSE is wheelchair accessible/friendly.
Is there a Main Stage?
Yes, there is a Street Party Stage located at Avenues Garage on Richmond with music performances starting at 7 pm with Bella Cat on Friday night, followed by the Peptides and the Rebound Band. Saturday night begins with Riot Police at 6:15 pm followed by Techno Caveman, Monday I Retire, Ukrania and the Hi-Fi Showband. Sunday ushers in the Shine Music Foundation Fundraiser with Jimbo at 4:30 pm followed by the 20th Century Boys.
Are there other performances to attend?
There’s also the Dovercourt Community Stage on the Street Party Stage hosting a number of local music acts performing non-stop over Saturday (10:30 am start) and Sunday (10:00 am start) including bands from Nepean and Woodroffe High Schools, Faraday, Suzuki Strings, Big Band Ottawa, Souper Jazz, Cross Celtic Dancers, Blues School of Music and Art, and others.
The Festival of Fire – a fusion of electronica, dance and colour – takes place on the FUSE Fashion Stage at Rob’s Music Saturday night beginning at 8:30 pm.
When does the Festival start?
WestboroFUSE gets underway, Friday, June 10th at 6pm with the 1st ever, MEC OTTAWA RACE – THE WESTBORO MILE! This event has a small participant fee of $15. Interested? Sign up now on the MEC website – mec.ca. There are 3 starts: Competitive (serious runners); Open (recreational runners); and Fun (pushing a stroller, jogging with kids, walking). The balance of the Friday night street party starts up as the Race wraps, and continues all weekend long!!
Is there ANY OTHER kind of entertainment?
Mike MacDonald and his Comedy Café will open at 7 pm on Friday evening at the Westboro Legion at 391 Richmond Road.
Westboro’s own Dr. Michael, Jen Labelle and Wafik Nasralla will warm up the stage for Mike. Rick Currie, veteran comedian and member of Rick Mercer Report’s award-winning writing team, plays host for this Yuks Yuks presented event. Proceeds of the ticket sales go to Westboro Legion and Soldier On.
Will Westboro FUSE offer things to eat and drink?
You bet it will. The Festival has its own Craft Beer Garden & Cocktail Lounge in the back lot of Frontline Credit Union on Richmond offering craft beer, craft spirits and superb wine samplers as well as full portions. There is a bar and licensed area at the Street Party Stage and a wine lounge near the FUSE Fashion Stage as well as Wine Tasting inside the Minto Upper West Presentation Centre. Kitchenalia is hosting a culinary stage with multiple presentations and samplers all weekend long – check www.westborofuse.com for schedules and details as confirmed. Westboro restaurants have extended their patios and food trucks are serving up specials. You’ll find gourmet burgers, savory snacks, fine dining, rich coffees, clean eats and divine treats all along Richmond Rd.
(Only these areas are licensed. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited outside these areas. Smoking or use of illegal substances is prohibited everywhere on the Festival site.)
What kind of activities will WestboroFUSE offer all weekend long?
You can soar down a 400 foot zipline; take in the best of the PC SuperDogs; and look for the Aeriosa dancers as they leap through Westboro’s skyline. Parents can also drop off their kids (4 – 10 years old) at the Dovercourt Stay and Play Zone for supervised games, arts and crafts while Mom and Dad explore the Festival.
All Saints and First United Churches are hosting multi-cultural presentations in their courtyards; The Ottawa Gymnastics Centre has a Try It Zone as well as demo team performances; you can find rock climbing and snow cones served up by Otto’s Family Fun Zone or take in the latest fashion trends happening at the FUSE FASHION STAGE courtesy of Rob’s Music.
And on the street – full of animation with magician Chris Pilsworth, the World’s Greatest Balloons, a tattoo parlour at Village Quire, a planting workshop and flowerpot painting at Tivoli Flowers Talk; and a meet the artists at Wall Space Gallery. Who is making this Festival possible and primarily free?
WestboroFUSE is produced by Aboriginal Experiences, Arts & Culture in collaboration, and with the financial support of the Westboro Village Business Improvement Area. The programming is free due to the generous support of the BIA and all of our FUSE sponsors. We are very grateful for their support!
Will there be road closures?
Yes, the street closures will start Friday night at 6 pm and re-open in time for business, Monday morning. Richmond Road from McRae Avenue to Golden Avenue will be completely closed to traffic during this time. Churchill and Roosevelt Avenues will remain open during the same period to allow for North/South bound traffic.
There is a safe detour offered to residents behind the Pharmasave and Starbucks onto Berkley Avenue as needed.
Is there parking and public transportation?
Yes, there are three hours of free parking on most neighbouring side streets – be sure to check the parking signs. Or find a spot in one of the two paid parking lots, located at Westboro Station on Byron Avenue, or at Picton Avenue off Winona Avenue. OC Transpo also serves Westboro. You’re just steps away from all the action at the Westboro Station stop. There is also a bicycle parking area behind MEC, and 70 bike post and rings along Richmond Road.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, leashed please.
What about noise?
The City of Ottawa has granted WestboroFUSE a noise bylaw exemption. We have permission to amplify our sound at the Mainstage, the FUSE Fashion Stage and the Craft Beer & Cocktail Garden for the enjoyment of the Festival’s attendees – but we are also aware of the noise impact on local residences, and will do our best to ensure sound is kept at a reasonable and enjoyable level with minimal sound impact during set up and tear down.
What about security?
Rest assured that your street is safe and secure during this event. In addition to the experienced , licensed and bonded security of Kamp Operations, we will have a number of paid duty officers on site over the weekend to direct traffic, secure crowds and ensure safety of the audience and local businesses.
Volunteers are going to play a big role in making this event a success.
